Hi there,

i have been recording from dvd without problems (soundtrack, movie dialogue etc.) but cannot get the MD unit (Sony H1-MD MZRH1B) to record from my new BD-player. MD is connected to an AV receiver (RCA into the tape in/out ports), as are the dvd player (via RCA) and the new BD dvd player (via HDMI). Is there a general problem with this set-up that does not allow audio streams from BD to be recorded the usual way that works for standard DVD? Would be grateful for any advice. Thank you very much.

HDMI signals are encrypted and unable to be recorded. There is a lot of flack going on surrounding HDMI.

Agreed, the movie studios are extremely paranoid. Any chance your BD player has an analog audio output? I know a couple of mine do, I have to select the analog output versus the HDMI digital output in order for sound to be output, for some reason on my players it does not output on both simultaneously. I am a little surprised that you receiver cannot decode the audio from the HDMI signal and output it onto one of its analog outputs.
