Question about VAIO VPCEB1S1E Processor

Hello again.I want to ask something about my Vaio VPCEB1S1E

My Vaio has i5 430M.

Can i upgrade to i7 720QM?

As i compared to intel's site the socket is the same.

Can you please give me this information?

This is likely possible, as long as the current chip is in a socket. A few things to consider:

1) The i7 uses more power in watts, you'll need a higher wattage power supply, higher power usage also means more heat, you need to consider whether the unit was designed to keep a faster higher power chip cool enough.

2) The BIOS must have the correct initialization microcode for the CPU you want to use, check to see if there is a similar model with the CPU you want to use, this would give you a clue as to whether the system can handle the new chip.

I have successfully swapped out Core 2 Duo chips in several Dell systems, it is usually not an issue, you really MUST have the BIOS support or it will not see the chip as anything it recognizes.

Azureal thank you for the quick answering. So l i have to find a BIOS with the same characteristics as mine with the only difference of the CPU?

And only with the BIOS everything is going to work fine?

The BIOS will take care about higher voltage and fan speed?

I guess my point for you regarding the BIOS is this. The system BIOS must support the CPU you want to install. In all of the Dells I have upgraded over the years, there were various versions of the machine sold which had progressively faster processors. As long as I had the most current version of the BIOS for the machine I knew I could install the highest possible CPU which was sold with that model.

Maybe Sony is different, I am not absolutely certain.

I just looked the model up and it seems to sell with an i3 or i5. It's hard to say for sure if the i7 will work.

So I opened it up without a problem (several times), but never could actually take out the fan to clean the radiator part properly. Can you pleas help me, guide me or show me how do I take it out? I seams very complicated and I didn't wanted to go on myself without proper knowledge.
