Sony Walkman Issues E00X

Question

My sister just bought the new sony model Flash player located here (http://www.atraclife.com/2006/05/25/new-walkman-accessories-for-the-nw-e00x-series/#comments), it has a slight problem, it seems to lose a lot of space right after a few transfers.

My sister transferred about 115 songs on her player last night. all in ATRACplus3 format, and the last time we checked the space was about 795 MB out of 990MB (1Gig), this afternoon she decided to continue transferring again some new songs, but to our shock we're left with only 599KB, KB not MB, and we suspected something is inside the player, true enough, we checked the External Drive in "My Computer" and saw that it duplicates all songs transferrd into a new folder named "Music" all in MP3 format, this took soo much space, the more we delete it off, the more it replicate itself, is this a bug or an issue? Please help!

That's a really strange bug, never heard of it before. Anyway I tested my NW-E003 for it and I only saw the typical OMGAUDIO folder with my atracaudio on it. So i think you should upgrade to the latest firmware version.

Btw,when you put mp3files on your player using sonicstage, it automaticly converts the music files to the atrac format (except if you chose to put AAC on it without conversion -god i love that option- :D ).

Anyway, a really strange bug, hopefully the ppl from this forum can help u (am new here ;) ).

Dil ,Not sure why but i think you should delete the mp3 files from SonicStage via Properties of each song (in sonicstage ) .

But Before Doing this do back-up your mp3 files first .

Also which version of Sonic Stage are you using ??

what i think it could be is that windows media player is trying to synchronize with the player, in which music in your wmp library will be transferred onto any portable player connected.

try going onto windows media player and disabling auto synchronization with portable players

I'm not sure if it's a bug or anything, but I did a test too, this seems to only happened when the player is connected to the family computer, but when I connect the player to my own (PC) the files didn't duplicate, just to make doubly clear of the situation, here how the problems starts/begins:

01. Whenever the player is connected to the PC (family PC), it loads just fine.

02. BUT when we accessed "My Computer" and double-click on the Removable Storage...

03. We see a folder automatically created named "Music" beside the normal usual OMGAUDIO folder and...

04. It seems to only COPY/DUIPLICATE songs that are already transferred/WITHIN the player

So let's say if we have 115 songs, yes E003F actually make copies of the 115 ATRACplus3 files into MP3 files and even organized them into folders. This eat up space so much that we're only left with 280KB sometimes. And yeah, I love that features too, auto convert when transferring, I used ATRAC format, cause it's smaller and Sony recommends it and stuff..

Hm, I did that with my E-507 player, I didn't realized it actually deletes the file off the computer itself, luckily it's only one or two songs, whoah I've to back up 115 songs and my sister has ripped about 350 songs, only 115 are chosen and choosing them back again is rather ridiculous, I'll avoid this option, but I thank you for your suggestion! :)

Yes, my sister uses Windows Media Player (WMP) to play all her songs, I'm not sure if the Sync thing is automatically set or she set it herself, cause we never really use this Sync thing, but it's worth a look.. I've yet to ask my sister to upgrade to the latest firmware, she's sort of the I-can't-be-bothered-kind-of-person, but I'll try bugging, I'm very concern, because I planned to upgrade to the E00x series myself... If I were to buy and I keep losing space, I think I'll just stay fix with my NW-E507 then!...

Thank you all for your replies, but keep your suggestions coming, I hope someone will find this thread useful or something, I don't even know if my sister is the only unlucky one to have this problem, she was so happy to have this player, it's her first, now she's kind of like "screw it"....
