My Vaio laptop (VPCF11S1E), just over 3 years old and little used, will not boot. The repair disc I made when it was new makes no difference. I have also tried the tapping F8 and F10, to no avail. Mostly, I just get a black screen. Once, the "VAIO" logo appeared and tapping F10 brought up the Vaio recovery programme. However, this froze in the middle of the hard disc test (CPU OK, Memory OK). On another occasion, I was presented with the "Windows did not shut down properly" screen. I selected "Start in Safe Mode" but again it froze after downloading a screen full of files Once, I saw a message at the top of a black screen that included the word 'firmware' but it did not stay long enough for me to read the whole line. Is there anything else that can be tried?
