Sony NW-A608 inquiry

hi! i'm a new member here. i can't believe it took me this long to stumble upon this forum where i can find so much info regarding the SONY NW-A608. i've been eyeing this player for quite sometime but it seems not much has been said on the internet about this so i've been putting off getting this one.

well here's my inquiry: is NW-A608 already being phased out?

how old is this model anyway? i can't seem to find enough stock of this in the internet. from where i am (Phils.), it wasn't even released but the one we have in Sony stores now is the E-series already (i actually have the E005 but i want one with FM so i REALLY like this better). and from what i've browsed so far, sony is kind of refering to this as an "old" model. i just hope it wont be phased out right away, at least not after i get my hands on this =>

i've learned from surfing the net that Sony just released a winter edition of A608 last christmas. if that's the case, then i guess i still have some hope... =?

would any of you know if this is still available in my neighboring countries like Singapore, Malaysia, or Hong Kong?

i just got the A608 about a month ago. Here in Singapore you can still find some of the bigger shops selling A608 but it seems that Sony is pushing the E00X series now... so guess they don't really care about the A608 anymore...

a most cool AUDIO player... yah so it's a bit lacking in the extras department and seriously overpriced compared to other 2GB "multipurpose" players here in Singapore... (but i got it at an unbelievable price...=p)

Yes, not many stores in Hong Kong have it. One big chain store is cutting its price at HK$998 at the moment. It is true! I am still thinking .. because another big chain store sells NW-HD5 at HK$1299.

Heman and Squee, if you don't mind, may i know the name of the stores in where you both said this is still available? you could send it to me thru pm if you'd rather not post it here. it would greatly save time knowing so instead of going thru all the stores in the entire Singapore or Hong Kong

about it lacking some other features compared to other 2GB players, i don't really mind. i like it most 'coz it's really compact and it's the one that delivers best what i want and that's sound quality both in mp3 and fm tuner mode, aight?

Heman, wow you're lucky if the HD5 is still available there. a lot of people are actually still wanting to get their hands on that. from what i've heard, it's really one helluva player (except that some just don't like the software). if you're into hd-based player, then you should really consider that *my two cents*

U can find a few shops selling A608 at Sim Lim Square which is like Singapore's main electronics/computers stuff shopping centre. i got mine at the shop V3 Audio on the 3rd level. it's an authorized Sony retailer. i think shops are still selling at S$379 though i got mine much cheaper at a limited-time offer.

finally got my A608

*very happy*

got from where Squee got his and boy was it really so cheap there. it even came with 1-year international warranty and a free wall adaptor (well it's not really from Sony, it's generic but who cares, it works
