Hi FOlks

just received a new toy and to my bad luck it won´t do anything other then "Error" in the remote´s display.

No Disc spinning :-/

I bought this little beauty , it is an MZ-E710 imo one of the most beautiful Walkman out there , defect and knew it could be worse.

What does bother me is that i never knew that Error Message before.

What i did till now

- complete disassembly and cleaning/regreasing including all the Boards cleaned with Isopropyl alcohol

- checked SM but there is no error history on that device

I pulled out the Laser section and turned it on but it still repeats with Error.

I didn´t have the time to do any further testing.Pretty disappointing though

Any ideas what to check before it gets finally stored in a drawer ?

Hello, i saw your post and i cant say much about the MZ-E710 ...

Try this (maybe): Put MD disc in sled, close lid and immediatly push for track one and play...

Red Light and Read Error otherwise.. is what is happening

Error only ..well i dont know (is the NV Ram settings there or blank ,i hope not its painfull to set them back with remote and possibility that it fails intermittent due to error) it can be done by doing it in steps and sort of saving settings when it gets "hot otherwise"..

But erasing NV will not help and then there is the adjustment for Power. With Remote control only its not possible for Power adjustments. I believe there is an measuring device required.

Anyway, MZ-E710 main board is damaged from before obviously. The good thing might be that the Optical pickup and motor is usable still. For like the E510,E630,E720..models.. Also can be checked otherway around from a working E510... or so.. to draw the conclusion.

Or if you have the BCA-MZE710 Charge stand. To try if it responds for some sort of charging. Like inserting MD disc and putting it on the charge stand and pushing alot of buttons or something. I believe the E710 is caught up in its error (good that it displayed error atleast) i think the Main Board is unrepairable.

I had also a E710 wit Red Light and Read error.. Later i erased the NV Ram and with the Remote Control did the settings back except Power settings. I thought at the moment. ..

On Remote display it was showing track number to be 217 or something when i tried to operate it , its been while since ,cannot remember more but i thought that when the error had happened could have been that track number if it was even possible. I recorded a disc in short Lp2 or Lp4 tracks and tried putting it in for play, hoping that the last memory was somehow related with 217? track number. And that did not work.

Another time when i obtained a Charge stand i might have done this. E710 without disc on stand, Red light was shoving, off from stand and inserted a disc and put back on stand immediatly. And at one time it operated i think. Slowly i selected tracks if it was a Yellow light disc, swtching tracks too fast did result in going back to Red Light and Read Error. Waiting for the E710 to shut off, then playback aigain it did resume from the start of disc.

I would say that the E710 came eventually as much as it could to come back but i was left with the missing power adjustments. Had the E710 charging for more than 10 hours with a red light, Remote display said SLOW CHG. But i think under charging the Light should change to orange light at some point. I obtained another E710 Later in time which had  better Main Board, so i switched that with my faulty one.
