Playstation 3 to Facilitate Downloaded PS One and PSP Games for PSP Use

During the Tokyo Game Show 2006, Sony has revealed that the Playstation 3 will be used to facilitate downloads of selected PS One and PSP games for use with the PSP.

PS3 Fan site has also posted additional pictures concerning this "Playstation 3 - Downloaded Games".

This is a decent feature to those who plan on owning a PS3. But I really dont understand the point. All of the downloadable games and demos will be accessed through the internet, wether it be via PS3 or a PC/Laptop. I don't understand why sony would waste their time pitching this feature. It's like saying "Hey, for all of you folks who dont already own a computer, you can download all of your PSP-ready media though your Playstation 3." At the high price of the PS3, I would bet my money that 90% of consumers that plan on purchasing a PS3 already own a home computer.

I makes perfect sense to me.

1. This just reiterates that the games can be downloaded, whether is is PC/PS3. No sense in not reminding folks.

2. Why waste time? How is it a waste of time? As I just stated, they need to advertise the downloadable games for the PSP, so why not make use of that time to also mention that the PS3 can do this.

3. This also acts as an advertisement that the PS3 and PSP are going to be linked, capability-wise. Sure, many folks may have already heard about it, but it makes sense to push this information right before the PS3 goes on sale.

That's great, you can play GT2 while you wait for GT4 Mobile to be released.

The downloads are now up and running via the playstation Network,

I've downloaded Hot Shots Golf 2 myself and it seems to run pretty smooth.

The file size was around 157MB including the license Key which will allow me share the game

with five other PSP's.

When you start the game up initially the screen size is a small and centered screen compared to

the PSP's full screen aspect,but once in the game there are three different options for:

Original(which is the small centered one)

Normal(which is slightly bigger than original)

Full Screen(which as you guessed is the full PSP screen,but it dose stretch the graphics)

Sony Computer Entertainment today has released the first five PlayStation games for download via the PlayStation Store. Currently available for play on the PSP, CoolBoarders, Crash Bandicoot, Hot Shots Golf 2, Syphon Filter and Tekken 2 are on sale for $5.99 each.

Though a PlayStation 3 is required to download the games, they can only be saved directly to a PSP and not temporarily stored on the PS3's hard drive. After purchase, two files are downloaded - the game file (which can be up to 600MB or so) and the license file, a small document that prevents illegal copying.

A number of universal control schemes are available in each game, giving you the option of how to emulate the lack of the L2 and R2 buttons. Each configuration uses either the D-Pad or analog stick for inputting L2 and R2, either by using a directional press to trigger them or alt-shifting the PSP's L and R buttons.

By default, each game's description on the PlayStation Store comes with this bit of text: "This title has been converted from the original PlayStation disc to the PSP system. Consequently, there may be times where the title plays differently from the PlayStation disc version, or where some features do not function properly. This version does not support PlayStation peripherals (Controller, Memory Card, Multitap, etc.), therefore functionality such as multiplayer, versus, and co-op modes will not be available."
