How to record Gapless disc?

Hi All,

Last night I thought I would try recording a Atrac disc.

I installed SonicStage 4.0 on my PC and used it import a mix CD as Atrac at 256Kbps.

I then imported a 2 other mix CD's and Christina Aguilera's Stripped already on my hard disc (stored in wav format) and a few random mp3 files into SonicStages "My Library". In the Library I manually named the wav file Artist and Album names - I guess it only gets this info from mp3 tags.

I then used "Transfer"/"Create an ATRAC CD" to Add them to a CD with the "Transfer mode settings" set as "Specified bit rate transfer mode" and Bit rate: 256kbps.

I burnt the CD at x4 speed. As it took a long time I left it over night to burn.

This morning I tried playing the CD only to find slight pauses between tracks on all albums. - My player is a D-NE520 CD Walkman. (All tracks play OK, apart from the slight gap between each.)

What have I missed? I did look to see if there was any "Gapless" box to tick, but didn't see one.

It looks like discs are not recorded gapless by default. How do I record a gapless disc?

Edit: Just to add that the albums play gapless on the PC in SonicStages "My Library".

1. Have you enabled seamless playback option on the NE520?

2. Is the original CD supposed to be gapless? You won't get gapless if the original is not gapless.

3. Converting from wav/MP3s will usually break gapless. Best bet is to rip directly from the CD.

Thanks Pata!

I hadn't enabled the seamless playback option on the NE520.

I'm surprised it isn't seamless by default. Is there any reason not to just leave seamless playback turned on? Does it affect anything else (such as sound quality, shock stability, battery life, etc)?

The original mix CD's were continuous dj mixes (with track marks) so yes they were seamless. And the Christina Aguilera album has tracks that run together (Loves Embrace into Loving Me For Me).

So thanks for your help.

The disc now plays gaplessly - even the two CD's from wav files. Obviously the mp3 originated files don't, but I didn't expect them to.
