hey, i joined after reading through all the topics on this forum, none of which have answered my problem. i have an nw e005 sony walkman flash mp3 player. it was working fine until a while ago, my computer wouldnt recognise it. it didnt bother me much as i had all the songs i needed on it, i thought it must have been due to the fact that the comp may have needed restarting. im now trying to transfer stuff, same problem. mp3 is charging and thats it. i've reset it, formatted it, reinstalled 4.2 of ss and to no avail. its really starting to piss me off. all i get from sony support is hold and hung up upon before i can talk to someone so im forced upon you people lol. i really hope you can help me solve this issue as this mp3 cost me quite a bit and i would rather not have to go buy a new one.

please help

yes, i cant format it with anything else as nothign recognises it.

Just to clarify, can you format your Walkman via the menu of the Walkman? Does Windows detect the Walkman as a removable device upon connection via USB? If not, try resetting your Walkman. In any event, please review the following paragraph from our SonicStage Software FAQ:

Device Detection Issue - WALKMAN device not detected by SonicStage CP, although it is detected by the computer.

Ensure that the WALKMAN device in question was not formatted via the computer; rather a format should be conducted via the software or the menu of the WALKMAN. If your WALKMAN was formatted with Windows Explorer it will not be detected by SonicStage. To resolve the device detection issue try the following:

  1. you will need to initialize the WALKMAN. To do so, please refer to the user manual of your WALKMAN.

    or

  2. ensure that you are not employing a USB hub. If so, please try and connect your Walkman to another USB port.

    or

  3. Restart in 'SAFE Mode', press 'start' --> press 'run' --> type 'regedit' and press enter --> locate: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\sptd --> set start value of DWORD to 4 (disable, set to 0 to enable it again) --> restart PC
Note: Method 3 is especially useful if Deamon tools not working properly – the driver (SPTD) for the virtual CD-ROM resulted in misallocation of drive letters.

thanks for not telling me you moved it lol anyway, as i said, i have tried everything this forum has to offer in terms of recognition issues, i have tried a new version of ss, updating drivers, sptd [the first thing i tried] and windows doesnt recognise it, only ss did when i managed to transfer songs [i have only managed twice and both were on xmas day] since then, it has refused to recognise it. i have tried resetting it, ive tried formatting it from THE PLAYER twice as, like i said before, nothing else would recognise it. im left with no options regarding in saving this mp3 player, no one seems to have an answer o.O

one more thing, this player cannot be formatted with windows. the only way to transfer songs is sonicstage or the user made alternative [forgot the name] and i have tried that one too :( help

  • 4 weeks later...

I am having similar problems with NWA 3000. Everthing fine unyil other day when SS (4.2) won't conect to device. Windows reconises it as a drive but device just says connecting and gets no further. I have read through previous posts. I have unistalled SS and deleted all files and changed registry as instructed in the pinned SS Software FAQ (although I could not find SPTD entry in registry). Reinstalled SS (4.3) but no change. Running XP professional which is fully up to date with service packs etc.

Any advice really would be appreciated
