USB connectivity problem between NW-A3000 & SonicStage 4.3 under Vista

Hi all.

I've upgraded from XP SP2 to Vista Ultimate a week ago, and I've waited for SonicStage CP 4.3.

I have a NW-A3000 20Gb with firmware 3.00 and under XP SP2 I've always worked with Sony Connect 1.0.04.16100 without a problem.

The problem is that SonicStage tells me that USB connection is not stable and don't see the NW-A3000.

I utilize a Trust USB Hub THE SAME I USED under XP SP2 and Sony Connect, so why SonicStage doesn't like it anymore?

I've tryed to connect NW-A3000 directly onboard, without the hub, but the result is the same, SonicStage tells me I have a bad USB connection... so what have I to do to trasfer my music under Vista & SonicStage?

The set of device drivers used in SS43 has not been updated since the time of SS40. Probably even since the time of SS34.02 (I don't have that version to check). The latest driver it contains is the one for the RH1, dated 10/31/2005, when Vista was at an early beta stage. Make your conclusions.

Ok, I understand but... what have I to do? I can't use no longer Sony Connect under Vista and SonicStage 4.3 has old USB driver for Vista... so?

Sorry but i don't understand: what exactly do you mean with "Re-Read the blog entry"?

Sorry. In the blog there is a special driver for Vista mentioned. I'd try to re-install your existing driver (remove, reboot, install, reboot, start sonicstage, plug walkman in). Good luck :)

ok I've tryed and it hasn't worked.

But there's more: on my PC I have a double installation (XP SP2 and Vista), I've tryed SonicStage 4.3 also under XP and gives me the same advice: the connection between PC and NW A3000 is not stable, and refuse to see the NW.

One then could think it's a hardware problem, but the point is: with this same PC and with the same USB Hub, with Sony Connect under XP SP2 I HAVE NO PROBLEM with the USB connection... so I'm still convinced there must be some kind of SonicStage problem, but don't understand what kind of problem...

USB hubs are known to create connectivity issue between SonicStage and its Walkman. Try and connect your NW-A3000 directly to your PC's USB port instead of the USB hub.

Ok I understand, but I have an Old DFI Ultra B with nForce 2 and there's only 4 USB ports on the back panel, so I use the USB HUB because I need it: I have a scanner, a printer and the mouse/keyboard, so it remains only 1 usb port, but I have the NW-A3000 and a cell phone and it's not confortable to change usb every time I want to use MP3 or cell with the PC...

There's no way to make SonicStage accept the USB HUB the way Sony Connect did before?

Is it not possible that SonicStage is now smarter, and now KNOWS there is connectivity issues, that have always been there, but now it is reporting them.

As suggested, re-arrange your connections, so the MP3 player is directly into the PC, and other dev ices are on the hub. I suspect this will fix your issues.

Hubs can be very troublesome devices... In particular unpowered hubs

Mine can be powerd at will, I have tryed but nothing changed...

I think I will wait this summer when finally I'll change my system, so I'll have more usb ports directly on the MoBo... until the I will use NW-A3000 under XP SP2 on the second partition....

hi,

I have the same problem. I use XP PRO SP2. After I installed SonicStage 4.3 and then I connect my NW A3000 Walkman directly to my PC's (I use at work) USB port, I have got the message this below:

post-6863-1125579121_thumb.jpg

this message says "Delete all tracks" and I don't wanna do this.

I also tried on my notebook, it have XP PRO SP2, and my husband's notebook, it have Windows 2000 PRO. So I've got the same results. I also think it's a SonicStage problem, but I don't know how I can fix it. Please help me :)

Yes it's exactly my same advice

I understand that new SonicStage 4.3 doesn't like USB HUBs and want only direct connections, but programmers should understand that they can't decide what is more confortable for the single user... this is a limitation of the software and I am incline to consider it like a bug...

the super-hated Sony Connect Player that has been abandoned in favor of SonicStage was much more functional for this aspect...

I hope they will fix it in future revisions, or I have to wait since I change my MoBo with a newer one with more usb ports on the back...

Ok, I've upgraded my PC and now I have the possibility to connect my NW A3000 directly to the PC through a USB port (port, not hub!) and the result is the same as the old PC: "The connection between the device and the computer is unstable"

This is simply absurd, what have I to do to make my NW A 3000 work properly under Vista/Sonic Stage 4.3?

rest assured, you are not alone out there with the problem.

NW A1000, fresh installed XP SP2 with alle the latest patches -> stupid error message even if connected directly to the computer (which wouldn't bug me if the data cable wasn't so darn short)

So I have the choice between software that sucks but works, and software that sucks less but doesn't work.

Yes. edwin123 is correct. If your HD player was formatted with Windows before, not with hard disk formatter (under Sony HD player's Menu), there will be a chance to see this problem. Sure, there are other reasons too. SS4.3 uninstall is not necessary.
