Question

Hey all. I bought an NWHD5 on ebay, under the screen was dusty, so I opened it up as per the instructions to clean the dust off, and managed to snap the F**king flex cable for the buttons. Is there any way of fixing it? Does anyone have experience of fixing this problem? If I sent it to sony, would they be able to repair it?

Thanks

EE

I am currently bidding on screen and headphone damaged ones on ebay, wherever mine snapped, it was right near the end. I cant figure out how to get the buttons out of the shell, so I'm just going to replace the whole shell/button combo. Thats the only way I can see to do it, as noone seems to sell spare buttons, and I dont fancy trying to splice the cable back together. *sigh*

That's what's confusing me as well. Are the buttons actually "built in" to the shell? The shell costs 49.25 UK pounds, or $88 US to replace (I called the UK and US Sony Spare Parts centers).

Does anyone know if I bought a new shell, would it com with the cable already attached to the button part?

Well from what I can gather, that is the case. The cable snapped off right down inside the shell on mine. Also the clip point is on the main board next to the screen. The cable goes down into the shell, and it looks like its hard wired. I didnt realise you could buy the shells direct from sony, all my ebay bids are less than that though. For like 40 im hoping to get the shell and either a spare screen or HDD, (usually one of them goes, not both) as well as a spare battery.
