rainman
Honestly, I'm pretty lost as to what is causing this and how to rectify the problem. I've got a library of approx 4200 tracks. All of these songs have previously been on this player with no issues. Because I just put everything onto the device I don't always reinstall the SonicStage software if I do an OS reinstall... I only bother doing so when I have new songs that I want to add. So, I've installed SonicStage and went through the standard import of all my files, which imported into my library just fine and everything plays in SS. When i try and transfer these to the HD-1 on the other hand i can only transfer over about 500 or so files. All others start to convert for a moment, then just drop off the list, and when the transfer attempt is complete all files that didn't convert are listed in the error window that pops up with the ridiculously vague indication of "Cannot transfer Files to Device". no explanation of the issue with the files, and the file properties in SS show unlimited transfer restrictions on everything.I thought maybe there was a problem with SS 4.3 so I completely uninstalled everything and installed SS 2.1 off the CD, and the same issue came up. This was all in XP, and I needed to reinstall anyways as things were getting messy, so i formatted and installed Vista, reinstalled SS 4.3, and i still have this issue. I have attempted to optimize the library before transferring to see if that helps but all the tracks that won't transfer (but play fine in SS, Windows Media, iTunes.. etc) skip through and come back with the cannot convert files window. This has been going on for a couple weeks now and I can't find anything that fixes the problem. I tried using the wife's iPod Shuffle in the mean time but the thing is probably the most irritating and useless hunk of junk I've ever used, so I'm back to the HD-1 with the very limited song library. All files are MP3 format, mostly ripped from my CD's, with a number of downloaded tracks as well. All of the files in my library were previously on the player itself, so needless to say, it is quite frustrating not being able to put them back on. Nothing's write protected, hidden, or otherwise. Unfortunately, there was a small piece of software that I had before from Sony, that would batch convert any MP3's you pointed it to into your ATRAC format of choice, but I can't find that file to download any longer. The only MP3 conversion tool I can find now converts ATRAC files back to MP3... the opposite of what i need *lol*.I'd really appreciate some help on this, any suggestions are welcome. Also, as far as I know there are no third party applications for managing the files for an HD-1. Does anyone out there know of something that may work in this case? juli_
rainman - have you tried transferring in smaller batches? From what I understand, you're trying to transfer over 500 files at a time.I can't be sure, but I think I read somewhere on the forum that larger amounts don't transfer, or SS just hangs.Just a thought, but maybe try transferring smaller batches across and see if that helps. rainman
Sadly that doesn't work either. I already tried just transferring over individual albums when I was trying to find a work around to no avail. I've never had the hang-up problem with large batch transfers. The issue for some reason seems to be that SonicStage simply will not convert my files to the ATRAC format at all. And there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it as the folders and or tracks it's successfully converting and transferring are seemingly random. My music folder is on a secondary HDD, so I thought that may be the issue for some reason but after copying a folder to the C drive SS is installed on it wouldn't work either. I read somewhere something about the ID3 tags being of a higher version than SS would support and that may cause conversion issues, so I removed all ID3 tags from the files and they still wouldn't work.
