can i initialise my nw-a3000 but still somehow keep the songs?

my device is not being found by either sonicstage or mp3 file manager, and it appears the only solution is to initialise it, but this would mean getting rid of all the music on my player, which i do not have backup copies of. is there any way to somehow copy and paste my database from the mp3 player onto a hard drive and then copy it back??!

any feedback would be appreciated.
