octalon7
So when you upgrade from 2.x SS to 3.X or later the device cannot be initialized using the new software without deleting the old files? Am I reading this correctly that if I use the FAQ to completely uninstall the OpenMG and SS software and then install a new version, that will solve the problem of the player being unable to initialize in SS? Or is there no way to upgrade from 2.X to a new version without losing all the data?

pata2001
Or is there no way to upgrade from 2.X to a new version without losing all the data? You forgot the keywords: Apple, iPod.OK, now to the question. Which region of Sonicstage do you currently have? US? You can try installing the Asia-Pacific version of Sonicstage, but in my experience, you would still have to initialize your player once. If you already deleted the songs from your PC, prepare to re-rip your music again. Gotta love Sony huh.
octalon7
Yeah, Ipod is on my short list as my Sony is starting to fail. I don't have any of my music on my computer, that's why I was trying to go to version 3 or later, so I could download it back, convert to mp3 and put on a new player.I'm on the US version of SS. So if I uninstall v3 and go back to the original software, still screwed with initialization? If so, goodbye Sony...

If so, goodbye Sony...Well, I'm afraid so. That's the problem with US version of Sonicstage. Due to Sony's DRM, it will force initializations on Atrac Audio Devices everytime you upgrade the software. Try installing the Asia Pacific version, see if you're lucky. Other than that, prepare to re-rip your music collection.
