Problem transferring songs onto my NW-HD1

Question

So before I totally give up and buy a new mp3 player I wanted another opinion. My NW-HD1 (which I have lovingly owned for just over 3 years) has slowly started having problems transferring songs. Moving songs from the MP3 player to Sonicstage happens in a snap. However, when I go to transfer songs from Sonicstage to the MP3 player it does the first few songs, freezes and then I get a "device write failed" message. I tried using a new cord and it didn't help. It just sounds like my player is on the outs, right?

are you using version 4.3 of SS?

Does it do the same thing when you transfer only one track at a time?

A couple of random suggestions:

Have you tried a different USB port on your computer?

Optimised the library?

You could try backing up your music library, and reinstalling SS if you haven't tried this already.

Could it be other software conflict? Could try running in safe mode and only running this software to help diagnose.

It could be some software conflict, but this is also how aging, failing HD's often act.

Given the age of the NW-HD1, I think it might be its time.

Pity, when it came out I bought it immedeately (had the first one in Holland the importer said) and loved it intensely for 2 years, and I still think it is a design classic; beautiful, compact, solid, long battery life with very nice sound quality.

you could probably tranplant the HD (there is a tread somehwhere here about chancing HD's in HD5 I think), and a new battery, but perhaps retiring it and enjoy your fond memories of it is the best way...
