johnty
I'm currently using the setup: mic=>batt box =>line in. the levels are very low - which isn't a huge problem in itself (I still get pretty decent results after normalizing on the computer) - However, there is that auto track mark after 2 seconds of pause - and I don't see anywhere in the manual where I can turn it off (I'm using a Sony Mzn 707, btw). I'm not talking about the auto track mark after 5, 10 15 minutes thing. Any ideas?

Have you thought of putting a pre-amp unit in series between the battery box and the line-in? If you want to keep things simple, I think that a few companies out there sell battery boxes with pre-amps built-in. I know that Sound Professionals, available at www.minidisco.com (and elsewhere) make such a unit.
