Sharp 821 Headphone jack & test modes

I have an 821 disguised as a Kenwood DMC-K9R, and one of its problems is that I only get the left channel when the plug is just so in the headphone jack (like it is now as I listen to it). However, if the cord or unit is moved, I lose it until I fiddle with it again. Physically, the innards look ok, the same as my other 821, but I wonder about the contacts inside, if there is any way to fix them or isolate the problem. Any thoughts?

Repairing the jack would at least make this thing a decent player, but on this unit and my other 821, when I record, I get the UTOC Error message when its finished recording and trying to edit the TOC. Both units do this and it seems to wreck the discs as well. I have an old DMC G7R that works perfectly when it powers up, but it wont read any discs that the 821s have tried to edit. I have read that people put their Sharps into test modes and reset all tthe factory settings as a fix, and ive heard that other people use the test mode and it completely screws everything up. Is there a place you can go to get the whole lowdown on this test mode? Im interested in learning about it and trying it if it has a chance of working, since I really dont have anything to lose as far as these 821s go, but I dont want to copmpletely destroy them either. Who knows it may even work on my clunker 702. Are the new Sharps still haveing these UTOC problems? It seems like Sharp oughtta be able to work that out, Im sure they've raised the ire of consumers in Japan too. I love my Sharp stuff when it works, but right now, it all just kinda sucks. :?
