Is it possible to plug into a soundborad at a live show with a mini-plug patch cable, or do you have to have a different cable, or is it impossible with a MD recorder? I would appreciate any help. :?:

You would need a Y cable, with the RCA phono jacks on the board running into your MD recorder. Of course, those jacks need to be free on the board, or similar jacks need to be free on something receiving a stereo signal from the board. These conditions might not exist at a given gig, but it is certainly possible to do this. I've made several MD recordings using the tape outs on my band's Mackie mixer. It works well.
