Lots of help needed

Just today i purchased myself a very nice looking SHarp MDMT888H which was boxed with a RCA Lead and an Optical Lead. My questions are.

As this is my first purchase to do wtih MiniDisks i aint got a clue how to record to it. I've gathered from reading up from different threads in this forum that there are a few ways of doing this. One way is to connect your optical cable to your pc and do it that way (but i don't have an optical socket for my PC) the other way is by connecting the RCA lead up to your Hi-Fi and recording it that (but i don't have any RCA sockets on my Hi-Fi). After cursing and shouting and both my PC and Hi-Fi for not having the neccasary sockets i realised that my Playstation 2 has an optical socket so i hook my MD up to my PS2 and start recording, i can hear the music through my headphones but when i actualy stop recording and play back, i hear nowt.

Preferably i would like to transfer my files to my MD through my PC but seeing as i don't have an Optical Socket is there another way?????

And is it possible to just 'drag n drop' the appropriate files onto the MD (or a similar method becuase i've seen people talking about software for there MD) without having to listen to them all the way through ????

Help is as you can see much needed here because out of my knowledge for technical issues Minidisks are a grey area to me as i've never dealt with them before.

well, you could just go buy a double ended male stereo minijack recording cable and record using your computer's line out. This will get you an analog recording though. As to the PS2 recording...not to insult your intelligence or anything, but are you sure you're recording? If your md isn't set to sync record you have to manually start the recording. I don't have muvh experience with sharp units, so I don't quite know what to tell ya.

With Sharp units, you slide the rec slider across, and it puts you in rec-standby mode. You can hear the stuff that you want to be recorded, but it's not actually recording. You must hit play after you have slid the rec slider across and set all the levels (read manual! They are useful!!) and are happy that what you are hearing is what you want to be recorded.

If you spring for a $10 3.5mm to 3.5mm male/male stereo patch cable, you won't need a new soundcard. One end goes from your PC's soundcard, the other into your MT888's line in.

Not with the MT888, and not really with anything else, but close. These are NetMD models, which allow high-speed downloading of audiofiles on your PC. The MT899 is such a unit - it is virtually identical to the MT888, but includes the NetMD technology.

Thanks for the advice Mystyler but i have it working through my Playstation 2 now. What i had to do was press record (which puts me in stand by mode like you said) turn on synk record and then pressp lay on my playstation controler. Anyways it works now and i've just purchased mt self a new sound card. Sound Blaster Audigy which has every socket you will ever possibly need.

I am now officialy broke

You don't need sync if you slide rec and then hit play. It should sync for you. biggrin.gif Just a handy (useless?) tip.

Yes, MD will do that to you, but that is why we love it.
