Guest Anonymous
Hello everyone, i have just purchased a sony md r501. I have found a number of ways to record throung analogue, but keep coming unstuck while trying to record digitally. I have been trying to use the digital out on my sound blaster audigy with a toslink cable, but when i try to record i get the no signal message on my minidisk. Maybe there might be a problem with the audigy soundcard as also i cannot get digital sound through my yamaha tss-1 speaker system, both problems use the same digital out connection. When reading the audigy manual it states that the offending connecting is a analogue/digital out connection. Any thought or idea's would be really welcome, thanks Darryl...
Mystyler
Is your card just the basic audigy? If so, the digital out isn't optical, but electrical, which is what the MD needs to record digitally. Also, *if* the digital port is like those on the Live! cards, it is a proprietary port, which is designed only to work with Creative speakers... Christopher
Mystyler, is that true about the digital in the Live! cards? I've got a 5.1 I just purchased, and I really don't want to find out that I can't use the digital out for minidisc recording. That can't be right, it's got a program..Minidisc Center. =P k
Mystyler
AFAIK, that MD software is for inserting 2 second gaps in songs for analogue recording. Yup, you're stuck. I also own the 5.1 DE.
Bazirker
If it has a digital out, you aren't necessarily stuck, you could get a digital converter and use the md program for track marks (if necessary.) Speaking of this software, what is it? Is there anywhere I can get a free copy?
sithlord
Thanks for the quick reply mystyler, so if i want to record from digital i will need The Optical I/O 2 for the Audigy???????????......
Mystyler
There is a cheaper option - Hoontech make digtal I/O addon cards for the SB Live! family of cards.
Guest Anonymous
Mystyler, I checked that thing out last night via a link at the t-station board. Looked pretty cool, and I'm sure I'll buy it eventually. My new priority is to make labels. woot k
