Guest Anonymous
Thoughts on MD vs. MP3 recorders for ambient/urban/nature recordings with 1/8 professional grade mics? Gawd, is there NO tool for recording in digital, uploading (not realtime) in digital, that is small, portable, and sub-$500?
Guest Anonymous
I've been wondering, and researching much the same dilemna. These links are a bit helpful, (but don't necessarily get at the underlying problem) http://t-station.net/md_is_better_than_mp3.html That one is by and for groupies of the MD format. Some comments are relevant, some aren't. http://www.t-station.net/md_vs_all.html Again, by and for groupies of the format, but with some salient points in favor of MD. The 4 main points that have tilted me in favor of MD are: 1. Independence from PC 2. Quality of recording 3. Durability of media 4. Cost of media (MD's) vs. memory chips/sticks The downside is the *klugie* way that MDs are seriously impaired when it comes to transferring data to a PC from the MD. That is a MAJOR problem. But as near as I can tell, the only real solution is DAT recording and that is one of the most expensive and limited options currently available. Devilbunny
You'll have to power the mics separately, but the Creative Nomad Jukebox 3 has the ability to record in MP3 or WAV, 1394 or USB2 jacks for uploading, and even a digital in.
