Guest Anonymous
The use: Making music with my digital 4 track studio that has an optical(digital)out -->Recording them to my ??? minidisc unit --> Transfer to PC with windows 98, AWE 64 soundcard. --> Burning to CD(Nero) Features needed, mic input, NetMD, optical ín/out. The question: Which MD is the one for me? Your(quick) answers are really appreciated!
Leon
I don't know if you want to use MD for this purpose, because NetMD won't let you transfer from MD to the computer digitally.

Digital is not mandatory for me. Is the soundquality significantly better digitally? Any recommended MD-units for this use?anyone please. Guest Anonymous
Almost any MD unit that allows recording will let you do this (look at the stats and see that it has an optical in). Perhaps the Sony 505 would be good for this, although as a Musician you might like a Sharp or the Sony 707 or something with a mic input. However I play with multi-track recorders myself, and I wouldn't recommend what you're doing. Minidisc is a lossey-compressed format with analog-only output. So, there'll be a slight loss in quality with recording to the MD, and then it has the same analog degradation. There's no advantage in recording to MD first, and then to the computer...you're better off recording from the unit directly to the computer. I don't know about the AWE64, but soundcards do exist that have digital inputs, costing maybe $50-$100 for a non-professional one. I got a cheapy and it works well. I have the Boss BR-532. It came with a WAV-converter program which I have not tried yet. I think I am still going to get me a NetMD for taking music from the mighty Web and my own doodles from the tracker. Because I do not have portable CD-player, I see no point why not take the leap to MD. Thank you once again!
