Guest Anonymous
I have temporarily hooked up my MDSJE510 to my computer. I'm running it with a Coax digital output, thru a Fostex Optical converter, then to my stereo. I find that the Minidisc's DAC sounds much better then the computer's internal DAC which is full of noise and I'm sure isnt that accurate. Before I go buying a real DAC, is there a way to set the MD recorder that it will startup in DAC mode everytime I turn it on???

KJ_Palmer
As the 510 has a timer (I think), you could switch this to Timer Rec, making sure you had no MD inserted. With no MD, the unit will automatically go into DAC mode when set to record. The wall socket might have to be switched off first though, or a timer with an on/off button used. I'll try this out later myself. Sorry - it doesn't work - you need a disk inserted or set to DAC manually.
Guest Anonymous
I use my MDS-JA20ES for exactly the same reasons. It sounds so much better than the DAC on the soundcard. Mainly my MD recorder is used as DAC, every now and than I record MP3s to MiniDisc using the same digital (coaxial) connection. To use it as DAC you always need to press record without an MD inside the recorder. There's no other option.
