I want to transfer a live concert recording from the MD to the computer. I have an older MD, the Sony MZ-R500PC, so I have to use the headphones jack out of the MD and plug it into the 'line in' on the computer's sound card. But now I'm stuck, how do I actually go about hearing the audio coming into the computer, and what program(s) do I use to do so? Once I can hear it through the computer's speakers, what do I need to do to actually record it on the computer? And what format will the computer's recording be (wav, mp3, ???)?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Currently, I'm using Total Recorder, and it works great.

it's not designed to really edit sound files, but it can handle splitting larger

files into smaller ones. if you're just looking to record, it's good.

Another side bennefit is the fact that it can record, from one format

to another, faster than realtime. Useful, if you're trying to copy

a Real Audio stream, and place it on MD
