Yet another mic question

Hi, I'm interested in picking up some mics to do taping of 99% loud rock/punk bands in small venues (1200 people venues at the largest) and some that will have poor acoustics. I've read a lot about binaurals vs cardioids and it seems the consensus is I should look at binaurals. Right now I'm looking at the Sound Professionals CMC-4 (the AT853s) with a pack with bass rolloff. Usually the sound is so loud that you can't hear the person next to you, so crowd noise isn't an issue here. What have you guys experienced is the best mic to use in these sorts of venues? Also take into consideration I will probably be getting pushed/shoved around a lot, and I believe this would affect the sound while using cardioids. Any input is appreciated. For what it's worth I will be using my trusty 722 to do the recording. Thanks.

Steve

You have to use binaural I think, because in a rowdy punk club (or any club, for that matter) it's too much a bother to point the microphone in the right direction.

Getting jostled is a hassle. Even in a very loud club, somebody brushing up against the microphone will come out very loud and annoying on the recording. If you're going to record, try to find somewhere to stand where you won't be slammed into, and be a little still!

I had a 722 and it was great. But like all Mindisc recorders, it can have troubles with music that's very loud, even if you have the recording level set to a low volume. I've never used a bass roll-off, but for sure you'll need some kind of mic-power system, so you can plug it in to the "line in" instead of "mic in."

It would affect a lot the sound while using binaurals if you listen to your recording with headphones afterwards. Actually I've found cards are easier for recording. So far, with cards, I've noticed changes in the sound (volume decreasing) only because I move my head DOWN to check the levels. With binaurals it happens more.

I have a SPCMC8: great product
