Looking for recommendations for minidisk recorder for daughter to use with violin.  I am looking at Sony MZ-NF810ck with Sony ECM-MS907 one direction mic.

i dont know about the 810, but i do have the ECM-MS907 mic (i use it with the MZ-N707) and i highly recommend it....

i've used it for loud as well as soft recordings, and all of my recordings end up sounding unbelievable.....

if u have any specific questions, shoot....

I am looking for something to record my upright bass with. Looking for something suitable for recording practicing solo and also gigs and such. What minidisc/mic do i get?!? I ask cause i figure i might need a different mic because of the frequency differences.

No, the 810 is fairly 'high' end, you don't need NetMD for your stated purpose, or the other bells and whistles.

I'd recommend a basic Sharp recorder, like the new MD-MT290 (£120 over here), but they might be hard to find where you are. Sharps are more suited to live recordings than Sonys, by the way, you may find one of these cheap somewhere.

An old Sony MZ-R700 might suit you, though, or at a pinch, the N707 or N710.

The ECM-MS907 mike is good and I love it, but maybe a tad overpriced like most Sony gear.
