problem with a kenwood 1050md home deck.

I just recently purchased a kenwood 1050md home minidisc deck off of ebay used so that I could digitally transfer live recordings from minidisc to my PC.

I have taped many shows with a sharp md-ms722, and just recently got a sharp md-dr7.

while transferring discs that were recorded with the 722, the 1050md would seemingly stop sometimes like 10 seconds before a disc was done. which means i would have to retransfer the entire show. sometimes it did it, sometimes it didn't. very frustrating.

then i got the dr7, taped a show, put the disc in... and EVERY single time, at the exact same spot, the 1050md would just hang for a few seconds, and then either stop, or keep playing. if it kept playing, it would skip randomly here & there (not too often).

is this an issue of atrac incompatabilities? bad deck? does it need to be cleaned? is this normal?

the deck is physically in brand new shape. no signs of abuse whatsoever. i am really getting frustrated and don't want to have to buy a new deck, but i will if i have to.

any ideas?
