The retailers in my area do not sell external speakers...at least not a speaker(s) that is/are designed for use with a portable MD player. My use will be primarily for recording (probably a short shotgun) and playback almost exclusively using an external speaker or built in speaker that is "loud". Sony and Sharp seem to be the best manufacturers based on my research. I like the feature on Sharp that prevents users from inadvertantly recording "over" keepsake material, but also like the manual record level adj. feature of Sony.
