Guest Anonymous
I'm considering a minidisc for two purposes: Recording via microphone (akg1000c or such) Listening to music downloaded from a Mac It seems, from my research that Sharp has better recording functionality. Question 1: Sharp MDs are only available from Japan? (Meaning: they only have warranties covered in Japan) Question 1a: If that's true, what is the relative reliability of MDs in general and Sharps in particular? Question 2: Mac compatibility. Is there a way to make use of the Optical in on a Sharp in concert with the mac? I have an audio interface that as AES (XLR Connectors, S/PDIF (RCA Connectors), ADAT (TOSLink), and Wordclock (BNC Connectors). Does the Optical line for an MD equal ADAT in pro audio interfaces? Question 2a: Will transfer of files be in real time or something faster? Do I need special software? Is that software from Sharp or shareware? Finally, I might not even be asking the right questions, so any advice people have is very appreciated.
bracken
Question 2: Mac compatibility. Is there a way to make use of the Optical in on a Sharp in concert with the mac?Yes, you need a USB to optical out such as the Xitel MD-Port DG2 or the UA-1D. I use a Mac with my MD and couldn't be happier. You can find good Mac info here: http://home.earthlink.net/~mac-minidisc/
