How To clean Lens

Use either of these methods.

1. Try a lens cleaning disk. Available wherever you get your MD acessories.

2. Use some isopropyl alcohol (from the pharmacist). Dip a cotton bud in it, let any excess drip off and wipe the lens with it. Try not to get the alcohol anywhere else but the lens. Let it dry for a couple of hours.

3. Use compressed air to blow away any dust or debris on the lens.

1. Is probably the safist method, 2. probably the most effective (though I haven't tried it). Don't know about 3, though others have used it.

By the way, don't bother cleaning your lens unless you have any problems with skipping. The best way to avoid dust etc. is to keep it away from your disks and player, by keeping them cased, not leaving lids open etc.

I got my Pioneer MJ-D707 along with the TDK HC-1 cleaning disk.

I used it once and I didi it down to the letter, according to the instructions given on the disk's case.

During the cleaning (after several minutes) the device gave up giving any sounds or any marks of action.

Then the device was turned off and on. After that it gave some errors on LCD.

I ejected the disk and, with nothing smarter to come up with, I turned off and on the device again.

Ever since then all that happens is giving the "SIO error| message on the screen.

I do not claim the cleaning disk destroyed the device but I know it worked prior to this cleaning attempt.

In the minidisk.org FAQ, Section on disk drives, there's a questin 17 concerning this.

I agree with the remark of how bad HC-1 can perform on the device.

Just when I thought cleaning the lens might be a good idea, you've got me afraid to try it. Could it be that just using alcohol might be better than using a cleaning desk.

Don't ever touch or use any cleaner on the lens. Use a can of air; it's used for keyboards and disk drives. Works a treat and requires no contact with the lens. See link.
