bcutlerj
I have the Sony ecm-719, and I think its made great recordings. it is very similar to the 717. If you are depending on plug in power and not using the optional battery to power the mic, you may be experiencing the effects of overloading the mic or the preamp that provides the plug in power. If you are using the battery, can you try to reduce the record level. unless you have superhuman ears or are recording for professional use you should get better than decent, clear recordings every time with this model. Well . . . go figure . . . BCJ
