I've got a question or two about the new walkman X series, if anyone could check these out for me.....
I've got a NWZ-A729 -- 16-gig previous version -- and I'm actually quite happy with it. I'm interested in the new 32-gig X series -- might as well get the bigger capacity and the bigger, better screen, mostly.
But.....
I've downloaded the manual and gone through it, and it looks like the screen display options are FAR MORE LIMITED than those my A729 has. Specifically, I use my A729 to listen to music at the office, where radio reception is impossible. And, I use the optional dock to send the signal to a decent-quality Yamaha mini stereo system. And, since the dock has power, I just let the power keep on going all day. So, the A729 is "AC-powered" all day. So, I might as well keep the screen showing all the time -- I do like being able to glance over and see what's playing at any given time.
So, I've used the A729's "Screen saver off" option, so it displays all the time. Perfect. Exactly what I want.
But.....
I sure don't see anything in the X series manual about anything like that. Even worse, I don't see anything equivalent to the A729's "New Song Pop-Up" option.
So, it appears that once the X series' screen turns off, it's just a blank brick, until and unless you grab the thing and wake it up. Correct?
Man, that's a "bummer, dude" -- it will make me think three or four times before I drop four hundred bucks on the thing.
But, if anyone could confirm this for me, I'd sure appreciate hearing from you!
