Ok wondering if you guys could help me out and tell me if this is normal or not.

Basically my setup is this. My lineout from computer goes into my mixer, which is connected to speakers, turntables etc.

I connected the output of my mixer to my MD hoping to record using the synchronised function. However when i do this i never get pure silence. By this i mean there there is one bar of volume for both the left and right channel in the display of my MD recorder. Therefore it starts recording automatically before i start playing music. So i'm thinking that my mixer is probably sending out some unwanted frequency (which is unlikely).

So i disconnect everything and plug nothing into the input of the MD. Now i try using synchronised recording and the one bar of volume is still there. So does this mean theres a problem with the actual MD recorder? Its brand new...

sync recording only works with optical in on sonys... if you don't plug anything into the recorder then it should just detect it as a standard line in recording and not digital...

the one bar usually appears even during silence when I do optical recordings from my PC to my N10, but track marking works fine when I disable all unused sound sources from my pc, leaving only wave out unmuted... if all else fails, maybe the connectors are just dirty...
