wednesday
Is it okay for me to buy a Sony MZN707? Can you recommend a comparable but perhaps superior Sony that is equally affordable? The other ones I'm considering: 1) MZN1 2) MZN10 3) MZNF810CK or Sharp 1) DR7 or 2) MT290 Thanks!
Guest Anonymous
It depends what it's used for. The 707 doesn't skip much, and had NetMD, and is a relatively good price. The DR7 (or some Sharp) is a necessity if you want to do much recording, and its playback is slightly better. But for jogging or NetMD it doesn't get the job done. BJ
In general, Sharp units are better for live recording, they have brighter sound, the controls are more intuitive (you can pick up a Sharp and use it without reading the instructions--tough with Sony) and they turn up a bit louder than Sony units. Sony have the NetMD thing down, they have slick little units and they are widely available--you can find parts, hacks and other people who use them a lot easier. Speaking of other people, I love my 707, and would certainly recommend getting one.
bluetrain
What do you primarily want to do with the MD? If your primary use out of the device is to listen to music from MDs, then get a Sony 505 or 510. These models offer netmd, their relatively cheap and they still provide line in so that you can record from your stereo, cd player, etc. If you primarily want an MD for live recording, go for a sharp model (they seem to be the cheapest with a mic in and better at live recording than sony). If you want live recording and netmd go for the 707 (If you can find one -- they've been discontinued), an 810, N1, N10 or N910. For my needs, I purchased the 810 because it has radio, mic in and netmd. But really you should go for the model that best suits your needs. Sorry that I can't tell you exactly which to buy, but it really depends on what you want it for.
