Does the mic jack on Sony MD's supply DC voltage?

The inference I draw from Jim Coon's item on the T-mic is that the necessary DC voltage for the mic element is supplied on the signal lead coming from the MD mic jack. Is this true?

yes, the mic jack is powered unlike the line in jack. I'm curious what results line in with powered microphone attached would get. and it has been suggested that a powered mic works great with the sony plug in power mic jacks; offering less chance for distortion due to mic overload. I haven't tried this yet.
