MZ-R50 wastes LIP-8 in 1.5 hours recording

I'm only getting about 1.5 hours recording with my used MZ-R50 and the gelpack. With the two AAs, I managed to get through an entire 74 minute disc and a half before I had to think about changing batteries in the AA pack. I wonder..does anyone have any "real" times they have achieved with their LIP-8 and the MZ-R50? If I could get through 2-74 minute discs, I would be happy. That would at least approach the 4 hour claim...although some claim 3.5 hours is more realistic for the LIP-8.

Appreciate your experience.
