Pause recording for long periods of time - good idea?

Sony MZ-R70

Xitel MD-port dg1 (USB to optical)

My compter at work has less than desirable integrated sound, so I connected my Xitel to my computer, then ran the optical line to my R70.

The only way I can actually listen at that point is to start recording. So far I've started the recording then hit pause, and I am wondering if this is a good idea.

I'm basically looking for the best method to use my R70 as a Xitel optical out to headphone converter. I will be using this 40-60 hours a month.

BTW, this works really well, the sound is MUCH improved.

Thanks for any input.

Yes, I have to do this at work as well!

No, it shouldn't be in any way damaging to the MD because, unlike say a VCR, whose mechanism actually starts up when you go into rec+pause, with an MD, it does nothing mechanical at all. When you start recording, it first fills up the record buffer while the mechanicals get up to speed so it doesn't need to do any mechanical "preparations". Mine seems to stay in rec+pause indefinitely. smile.gif
