MZ-R700 Won't Read Disks

Hi,

The problem started months ago; my MZ-R700 would just stop reading disks properly. Partway through a track, seemingly randomly, on all disks, the disk would spin but the time counter would stop and the audio would stop. This would be an issue when trying to play a disk, too; it would spin but the track listing wouldn't come up and the disk wouldn't be read. I did notice that shaking the player, or just allowing it to spin the disk for minutes on end, may temporarily fix the problem.

Well, now I can't even get it to work at all. Won't record, won't play. The first thing I tried was removing the front casing and blowing into it real good. No luck. So I entered the service menu and followed the directions here for resetting the EEPROM, but on step 2, when I try to automatically adjust MO playback, I get the error code 324 NG 00. Is this a hardware error, most likely? Can I fix it myself? How much will repairs cost? Any other suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

To top it off, now I can't leave service mode. I don't have a CD MD and I don't have my power plug with me. So that kinda bites.

I discovered that I can pass the adjustments in service mode successfully the second time I run them. I.e., I get an error, hit "pause" again, and it says OK. Sorta weird.

the problem why you can't get out of sm is because you,ve resetted the eproms now u most put the power adjustments and audio adjustments. this is not easy to do the md has to be opened and test probe for testing voltages for more info get at me

I have the exact same problem with my MZ-R700 :?. I sent it back, but they said they don't cover accidental damages and pointed to a big scratch on the corner (there's a big scratch on the corner of my MD where i accidentaly scraped it against a wall).

They did however say that the problem is probably related to ether the MD or Laser motor.

Just preformed a successful reset an hour ago (thanks for the link N407ER). So far so good *crosses fingers*.

If anybody has additional info on this problem, please post it here, i'll be very greatful . I'll post again in a couple of days to let you guys know how if the reset fixed the problem.

-Adios

Ditto, my friend (see my Post heading N707 Playback problems posted on 28th Sept 2003) -my 707 started doing this a few weeks ago - not on disks of mp3s that I've had for a while but on ones downloaded from my pc this past month or so ago.

The upshot is that this model is crap I reckon.
