Guest Anonymous
i have searched the forums, as well as countless configuration files and most of my registry, but to no avail. does anyone know of a way to adjust the quality of the atrac software codec on my windows box? most mp3 encoders have a quality setting that causes them to re-encode a frame more times until better results are achieved; i would assume that atrac, being a perceptual coding algorithm, would function similarly. i ask this because i notice the quality of a 132kbps atrac file is less (artifacts + reduced dynamic range) than a 128kbps mp3 encoded from the same full-quality .wav file. fyi, i have a sony mz-n505 and am using lame 3.93.1 with -q2 for mp3 testing. any insights would be greatly appreciated. tia. clonmult
I can't agree with that comparison - I've always found LP2 to be better than 128 kbps MP3, regardless of the codec. Then again, I've been to plenty of hi-fi shows and gotten into arguments with people over the merits of various systems. I personally prefer Atrac3 to MP3 - its been in active use for a good bit longer, and its really matured into a good codec, especially with type S. Anyhew, in answer to your question, nope, no such options with Atrac.
