Larry T
I do a lot of real time recording. what i used to do was record Certain FM radio Shows to Cassete tapes then record real time to MDLP4. I do this because the radio shows i listen to Air a lot of live & recorded live gigs in the UK 8). I did this primarily on my main Midi Unit (CHC-CL5MD) This was all well and good untill a time when something happened. what that something is I do not know. One Day I was Editing my discs and it displayed an error. I ejected the minidisc from the unit and put the minidisc back in. THE DISC WAS WIPED CLEAN  !! (it's just as well i recorded a second copy of that Iron Maiden Live show onto another disc beforehand  ) I could tell it was wiped clean because I then put the disc into My portable recorder (sony MZR-700 more problems with this coming up) and it still registered as a blank disc. I then carried out some tests on the CHC-CL5MD using vocal recordings made onto empty minidiscs using a microphone attatched to My MZR-700  . I discovered that:  1) editing the disc in any way = WIPED DISC  2) Recording extra tracks = WIPED DISC  This happens even if the write protect is active!! 3) After having done any editing/recording. It doesn't make the usual noise it makes when info is being written to the disc. 4) The unit still worked well as a player if none of the above takes place  THIS HAPPENED 2 DAYS AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED :!: :!: :!: I made Extra discs just in case the same thing happened to my MZR-700 (again, more on this later) what I then turned to for continued recording of live material was my MZR700. I did this using a stereo jack  stereo jack cable from my CHC-CL5MD unit. But 4 months worth of recordings later, the same thing's now happned to my MZr 700 Portable, i carried out the same tests using the minidiscs I kept finding out exactly the same results as before. I have read similar stories here on this board but does this sound like anything different or is it still the same deal, I have been very careful owner of both the CHC-CL5MD for one year and the Mzr-700 for 2. I would be very grateful for help on this matter, Also, What I would like to know is that are there any Minidisc systems out there with a minidisc Long play Facility AND an optical digital outut that can tansmit signals from long play recorded minidiscs? If there are, what are they, or do i have to go down the seperates route? PS.. Does Anyone here have any recorded footage of this year's Reading & Leeds Festivals? I would be greatful for it as I lost my disc full of it to the above problem, I still have the Metallica live recording tho . thanx Larry T, Aberdeen, Scotland. 8)
