Guest Anonymous Posted September 25, 2003 Report Share Posted September 25, 2003 hi folks, my 4-year-old sony deck mds-je500 won't eject any discs anymore. if i put power on and insert a md, all works fine until i wanna get the md back out. the mechanism apparently tries to get it out but fails when the carriage moves more than about 5 mm and pulls the md back in. sometimes the gears only jerk a little and the carriage moves not at all. the display alternates between "eject" and "welcome". the plastic gears of the mechanism turn a little, but this seems more like the motor had the parkinson disease... yet there should be no mechanical obstruction, because when i switch power off and try to get the md out by turning the gears slowly, it works without any noticeable obstruction. any idea what it could be? has anyone faced similar problems? hope you can help me. By referring to the Parkinson's Disease symptom, if most likely sounds that the eject motor has an intermittent problem, or there is some other type of interference mechanically. Double check to see that there is no accumulated dirt or dust between the plastic gears and that they mesh smoothly. Another remote possibility would be that the eject switch contacts are so close that pressing it causes it to close the contacts twice. The fix that I have found that works (on VCRs) is to clean the switch contacts with contact cleaner, being very careful not to get any fluid on any unintended parts.
