Guest Anonymous
Hi. just wondering if anyone knows much about this deck. i have been offered one for €150 second hand in perfect condition - and i think they retail new for about €250. i am thinking of getting one for various reasons. TOC CLONING - if this works on this deck it'd be very handy for me CONVENIENCE - i could have it permanently hooked up to my amp instead of plugging in and removing my portable every time i want to listen to an md. SOUND - i believe sound quality on these decks is excellent OPTICAL OUT - i have spare optical in on my amp - will the sound be much different than with just RCA (analogue) inputs on cheaper amps? I have a net md so i use my laptop for all editing. will the deck play all my net md's? and can i clone them, or just normally recorded md's? if i hook my dvd player to the optic input can i record the contents of a dvd or will copyright kick in and stop this? i know i can record it with analogue but optic is preferable. if cloning doesnt work - can i do this - put net md recorded md ( with openmg) into deck and play it. connect optic out to my mz-n505 portable and record exact copy this way? or will some silly sony copyright thing stop this? And overall is it worth €150? Thanks
KJ_Palmer
TOC cloning is possible on this deck - according to this description. Its an old-ish deck (circa 1999), so I don't know if you can even buy it new, but I believe it's a very solid recorder and you satisfy most of your needs. Being pre-2000 it doesn't have MDLP, so you can only playback the pseudo-SP recordings from your netMD. Some DVD recordings have SCMS copyright built in, so you may not be able to digitally record all your DVDs (but this applies to any deck or portable recorder). Not sure if it's worth 150 euro (especially second-hand), I'd personally be tempted to pay a bit more go for a new and more recent deck, but it's a fine deck all the same, though slightly 'retro'. Guest Anonymous
yeah you're right - it doesn't have mdlp. i think i can forget about that one. thanks for the reply. any suggestions for a new more modern deck with mdlp, toc cloning, and optic out? thanks
Guest Anonymous
i found a je-330 - entry level deck for less than €100. does this deck have mdlp? i know it has no optic out but analogue out would do fine if needs be. anyone have any problems with this deck? KJ_Palmer
Nope, 'fraid not - no MDLP on the JE330 either. It's the same generation as the JE530 (hence the '30' suffix), only lower spec. I can recommend the JB980 from the newer stable of decks. It can perform TOC cloning (apparently, though I've never tried it), and is mid to near high-end in terms of sound and features. Otherwise the JE780 would be a fine alternative. If you can get hold of the previous generation's JB940 or JE770, these decks should also serve you well.
Guest Anonymous
yes you will get a performance increase with your internal dac. If you have a better Amp the difference is hughe !
Expander2000
If your looking for an entry-level deck with MDLP, I would recommend the MDS-JE470 or MDS-JE480 Lets not forget both can be modified to add an optical out.
