Guest Anonymous
Greetings, Purchased a MZ-R700 in early 2000. Worked flawlessly until a few weeks ago when it started doing funny things: it records (2X speed) the first 40-60 minutes of a CD without problems, but from that point on it starts "skipping" and creates a lot tracks on the disc. I can play the first few tracks, but not the ones created after the 40-60 minute limit (though I can hear the disc spinning). Took the MD to the repair shop. Turns out the laser unit is damaged. The cost of getting a new one is so expensive I would like some advice before I make a decision: is this kind of problem frequent with MDs?. Or is this problem common to the MZ-R700?. Is there any way to prevent it from happening?. Are there any other options besides replacing the laser unit?. If not, and if I decide to buy a new one, is there anything I can do with the old unit, other than throwing it to the garbage can? :-/ I would really appreciate your comments and suggestions. Txs much in advance! Randy rcastillo66@hotmail.com
Guest Anonymous
Greetings, Purchased a MZ-R700 in early 2000. Worked flawlessly until a few weeks [...] Bad luck... Have a R500 and it still works flawlessly... [...] is this kind of problem frequent with MDs?.Usually not. MD's don't fail more often than other audio equipment. But since mobiles are more prone to accidents, they see the service more often... Or is this problem common to the MZ-R700?. Is there any way to prevent it from happening?. Are there any other options besides replacing the laser unit?. Preventing it? I'm not sure, but the laser unit is the most sensitive part, so avoiding hard shocks like dropping or banging the unit against hard surfaces is recommended. Usually, the laser component is to be replaced... If not, and if I decide to buy a new one, is there anything I can do with the old unit, other than throwing it to the garbage can? :-/ Sell it off on eBay. But stick to the truth in the description. Defective units can achieve up to 50 bucks... However, buying a well cared for used one could be an alternative to a new one. Txs much in advance! You're welcome.
