Simple Burner "insert audio CD" message

Hello All,

I hope I didn't miss the answer to this; I did look a long time.

When I try to use Simple Burner, it keeps telling me to insert an audio CD. I have 2 CD drives (one Burner) and neither is seen. OpenMG works fine, but I want to use SB.

I have mounted an image with Nero, but that is not seen either.

SB recognizes that the drivers exist; the drive letters are available to pick from, including the Virtual drive. When I put in a CD, the disk icon in the upper left starts to spin, but then I get that "insert an audio CD" message. I have been working on this for about 4 months now, but no one seems to know how to fix this.

Anyone have any idea?

Windows 98SE

1.7 Ghz Celeron

80 Gig HD, 50Gig free

Thanks,

Bill

I wanted to add one thing that might give someone an idea. Winanp, Realone, etc cannot play CD tracks from the CD Drive. They show the tracks (unlike Simple Burner) but cannot play them. WMP gives a "media type not supported" message.

I bet this has something t do with my problem, but I cannot imagine what.

Any help from the Gurus out there?

Thanks,

Bill

Fellow sufferers,

RE above posts

The following instructions will solve the problem I have seen many posts about; Simple Burner has no file list in the right window. It sees that there is a drive, i.e. E:, but cannot read the disk and gives "PLEASE INSERT AN AUDIO CD" message.

These instructions are from a link from Winamp troubleshooting pages.

My Simple Burner now works!!!

Hallelujah!!

Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Multimedia.

Click the Devices tab, double-click the Media Control Devices branch to expand it, click CD Audio Device (Media Control), and then click Properties.

Click Remove, click Yes when you are prompted to remove the device, click OK, click OK, and then restart your computer.

Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add New Hardware.

Click Next, click Next, click No, I want to select the hardware from a list, click Sound, video, and game controllers, and then click Next.

In the Manufacturers box, click Microsoft MCI, in the Models box, click CD Audio Device (Media Control), click Next, click Finish, and then click Yes.

I did not do the following, however. Don't know if it makes a difference.

Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.

Click the Device Manager tab, double-click the CDROM branch to expand it, and then click the CD-ROM drive.

Click Properties, click the Settings tab, click to clear the DMA check box, click OK, and then click OK.

I have been looking/asking for a solution for about 9 months now. Hope this saves someone else the hassel.

Bill

  • 8 months later...

Finally got Simple Burner to recognize the drive AND the disk. (THere must be some conflicting program on my system (Windows XP) because if I reboot and MD Simple Burner is the first program I open, the drives and discs show up.)

HOWEVER, new problem... the reading functionality test always fails and when trying to transfer, I get a recording failed message. This happens for both regular CDs and Nero CD images mounted to a virtual drive by Daemon tools.

Any suggestions?
