I hope someone can help me with this.

As I wrote in a previous message, I just got my first MDR (Sharp MD-DR480H) for Christmas and used it, for the first time, to tape a half-dozen a cappella concerts last week.

I would like to find a computer program to help me equalize the "hollowness" and "hiss" of the lower recording level (which, of the 6 shows, is the best copy I got...others have distortion of too-high recording levels, or quick skips from going between recording levels 20-21).

I've looked at websites for Audacity, Cool Edit Pro, Goldwave, Wave Corrector and Rosoft but I'm not sure which ones will be compatible with my computer, which is a Pentium II 400 (circa 1998 ). My husband has a Pentium II 550, which is only slightly better.

Since neither of us are planning to buy a new computer until 2006 (we have a once-in-a-lifetime vacation to Japan coming up next year and all of our savings are going towards that), can anyone suggest a less-than-$100 audio editing program that will work with either or both of our dinosaur computers? Thanks!

GD

From what I understand, Audacity is FREE and GNU/GPL.

It is available for Windoze but was initially conceived for Linux.

It does have a hiss removal.

The best software you could get is without a doubt: SoundForge.

However this one is like 600$US.

Your only option is to get a crack for that one.

Don't know much about the others, sorry.
