Minidisc: Noisey pre-amps?

My DAT-player has more or less said goodbye, and I´m thinking of going the minidisc-route.

However, I keep hearing about noisey pre-amps.

I´ve put my eyes on the Sharp IMDR-420, which has mic-in. How much noise does the amp itself produce?

I will be using it with a Sony ECM-MS957 stereo mic. Will there be much noise when recording for instance quiet sounds? Or with quiet recordings in general?

Please let me know...

I just purchased a Sharp DR-480 and an Audio Technica 822 stereo mic to record ambient natural sounds. There is some high frequency noise which probably comes from the pre-amp in the recorder (probably the same in the 420). It's not too bad but it would be nice if there were some way to reduce it.
