Best for phone interviews?

I record numerous phone interviews. Currently use a Radio Shack adapter between phone and cassetter recorder. Would like to switch to MD. Best--and least expensive--players you recommend for this?

I plan on continuing to use the Radio Shack adapter unless someone has a better idea/set-up.

This would be my first MD, so I am trying to figure all this out.

Thanks,

David

Just make sure you have a mic input: Sonys MZ-N7** and 8** and 9** or R700 and R900, and N**, or Sharp with mic input (Not MD-MT 170 or 180).

A line input won't give you enough gain. You can get a cheap one and use LP2 or LP4 as long as it has mic input--phone calls aren't exacly hi-fi.

Don't know what your Radio Shack adapter is, but if it's one of those suction cups stuck to the phone headpiece, there's another kind that plugs directly into your phone jack, which has worked more clearly for me.

The now-discontinued Sony G750 has mic-input (and AM/FM radio on the remote) and it's a midrange portable.

I've used it to record audio (with a t-microphone directly plugged in you get a little noise from the mechanism from time to time as the recording head realigns, but it's not bad, so you might want a powered mic with a lead to reduce that for other recording) and like the results.

I got mine at the Sony Store in Stirling a year ago for £157; I'm sure you could get one cheaper online now.
