Guest Anonymous
If you're trying to record a CD from CD headphone out to RZ501 line in, make sure the volume is up on the CD player--listen through headphone as you record to make sure it's not distorting. But I'm guessing you're having trouble recording from a mic. RZ501 only has a line-in not a mic-in jack. Mic jacks are different because they have a preamp for the weak mic signal. Line in jacks are for recording from a powered source like a CD player or other playback. If you're recording with a mic you need to boost the sound with a battery box or mic preamp. It might be cheaper just to look for a MZ-R700 on ebay--they're under $100, and the battery box will run you $60-70 anyway.
