classicalnut
Does anyone have suggestions on the best stereo microphone to use for recording classical choral music? The mike doesn't have to be stealth because the recordins are being made with the groups permission. I have a Sony MZ-N10. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,It depends, if you're just sitting in the audience and want to get a casual recording, get a stereo cardioid microphone, where the left and right channel can be physically separated from each other. For this type of mic, there's nothing that works particularly well with particular types of music, as long as it's a good brand the quality more-or-less will compare to the cost. If you're doing some kind of semi-official recording, I don't have the experience with that. Probably get two mics on stands, place them front left and front right. More mics (above?) would also help, you'd need some kind of mixer. Additionally, you might want to try using a battery box.

Thanks,It depends on if you have the possibility to erect some microphone stand or have to be "compact". In the latter case I suggest Sound Professionals SP-CMC-4 cardioids attached to your glass frames. With some DIY work they can also be configured for different stereo techniques. I have this type of mics and recorded classical music as well with excellent results. Use the low sensitivity preamp setting or, for big choirs even line in with a battery box might be appropriate. Anyway, I suggest to go to www.soundprofessionals.com , they have also forum, and they reply e-mails.
