pracom
I have owned both a Sharp 702 and 722 model MD recorders and have been generally pleased with their performance (with the exception of the 722 recording capability not working now after a dreaded TOC error). A major feature which I regularly use with both models is the monaural recording of speech with playback at 2x speed. This enables me to compress and reduce the listening time by 1/2 with very little distortion of the tone. I am curious if anyone is aware of a newer, reliable replacement MD recorder that has these features. I know that some of the subsequent Sharp models still had them, but what about any other manufacturers or particular models? I know that a Sony 505 model, and probably many others, that will record in mono, but will not playback at 2x speed.
KJ_Palmer
Of the Sharp MD recorders that I have access to, the Sharp MD-MT88 and MD-MD180 both have 2x playback for mono recordings. They are both reliable units and shouldn't suffer from the UTOC error problems, but are not exactly new units.. Of the newer units, I'm not sure about the MD-MT290 (I can check later at home), but the IM-DR420 does not seem to have it. The "Fast Play" mono feature seems to have been limited to Sharps only, at least I haven't seen any Sony's with it....
